Wise County Forest School is a free, volunteer-led, community-based organization dedicated to connecting people of all ages with nature through immersive, outdoor education. Based in Alvord, Texas, and gathering in the beautiful landscapes of the Lyndon B. Johnson National Grassland, we provide meaningful opportunities for children, teens, and adults to explore, discover, and grow in a natural setting.
Our purpose is to foster curiosity, resilience, and a lifelong love of learning through hands-on, play-based outdoor experiences. We offer guided exploration, educational presentations, and practical nature-based skill building that encourage confidence, creativity, teamwork, and environmental stewardship.
As a free community resource led entirely by volunteers, Wise County Forest School is rooted in service, accessibility, and shared stewardship of the land. We believe nature is a powerful teacher, and we are committed to creating a safe, welcoming environment that nurtures the whole person — socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually — while inspiring a deep connection to the natural world.
